Bartlit Beck Teams Win Important Cases for Johnson & Johnson Subsidiary Ethicon and DuPont

04.19.2019

Bartlit Beck teams had two important wins on behalf of clients Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ethicon and DuPont this week.

On April 17, 2019 a jury in Philadelphia returned a defense verdict in favor of Ethicon in a pelvic mesh implant case. The trial team consisted of Sean Gallagher and Jeannie Tinkham of Bartlit Beck, Julie Callsen and Jennifer Steinmetz of Tucker Ellis, Andrea La’Verne Edney of Butler Snow and Kimberly Gustafson Bueno of Scott Douglass & McConnico. Law 360 named the trial team as the week’s “Legal Lions” for the win. For additional information regarding the case, read a Law360 article here and an article by the Legal Examiner here.

On the same day, the Federal Circuit upheld a jury’s verdict in favor of DuPont in a patent infringement trial against Unifrax. The patent at issue related to a fire barrier laminate for thermal blankets for airplanes. After the week-long trial in 2017, the jury returned a verdict for DuPont, finding that Unifrax infringed DuPont's patent and awarded damages of $3.2 million. Bartlit Beck partners Chris Landgraff and Mark Levine represented DuPont at trial and in the appeal. For additional information, read a Law360 article here.
