02.2006

In what has been reported as a "major victory for Merck" and a "blow to plaintiffs and their attorneys who have brought more than 9,560 lawsuits against the drugmaker" Merck since it withdrew Vioxx from the market in 2004, a jury in New Orleans Federal Court has cleared Merck of any responsibility in the death of a Florida man who had a heart attack after taking Merck's medicine.  The jury deliberated for less than four hours before returning a verdict for Merck.  Bartlit Beck attorneys Phil Beck represented Merck in the trial.
