Giovanni Sanchez represents clients in high-stakes commercial litigation across a broad spectrum of industries and subject matters, with a focus on navigating complex legal problems and trying difficult cases. Before joining Bartlit Beck, Giovanni was in the Office of the Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he most recently served as Counsel to U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. 

Giovanni is a graduate of Cornell University and Yale Law School. After law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Randolph D. Moss, District Judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and to the Honorable Merrick B. Garland, then-Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. 

Before his time at the Department of Justice, Giovanni was a litigation associate at a premier litigation firm, where he was trial counsel for plaintiffs who secured a $25 million verdict against neo-Nazis who organized violence during a 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Giovanni has also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, trying seven criminal matters on behalf of the United States and the District of Columbia.

Representative Matters

General Access Solutions, Inc. v. Verizon (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas)
Trial counsel for General Access in patent infringement action against Verizon involving fundamental patent relating to beamforming technology employed by 5G base stations.

Sines v. Kessler (U.S. District Court, Western District of Virginia)
Trial counsel to plaintiffs in Sines v. Kessler, the historic federal civil rights lawsuit brought against the neo-Nazis who conspired to commit violence in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017. Giovanni’s contributions included briefing, arguing, and winning key motions, including on critical evidentiary questions, voir dire, jury instructions, and damages. The four-week jury trial resulted in a $25 million judgment for Giovanni’s clients. The trial team’s work was featured in the 2023 HBO documentary, “No Accident.”
