Bartlit Beck Concludes Investigation with the Colorado Office of the Attorney General into Aurora Police and Fire Departments

09.15.2021

Today Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser released a report, prepared with support from Bartlit Beck, that found that the Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Rescue have a pattern and practice of violating state and federal law. The report set forth findings from an investigation that had been ongoing since August 2020.

Bartlit Beck partner Sundeep K. (Rob) Addy and former partner Sean Grimsley were appointed in September 2020 by Attorney General Phil Weiser as Special Assistant Attorneys General to assist with the investigation.

Attorney General Phil Weiser commented: “I would like to thank all of the professionals at Bartlit Beck who invested an incredible amount of time and energy on the investigation of the Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Rescue. This is an important moment in time when we as a community can make lasting changes that elevate policing, improve law enforcement, and advance our commitment to the rule of law and equal justice under law. I am grateful to all at Bartlit Beck for their contributions in advancing those values in the best tradition of the legal profession.”

Addy commented: “We thank Attorney General Weiser and his office for their confidence in choosing our firm for this assignment, and we’re proud to have served our community by assisting with this important investigation alongside Solicitor General Eric Olson, our former Bartlit Beck partner.”
