Bartlit Beck to Represent Scour.com in Internet-Technology Copyright Suit

08.2000

Scour.com today announced that it has retained the Chicago firm of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP to represent it in a suit filed against Scour by members of The Recording Industry of America, the Motion Picture Association of America and the National Music Publishers Association.  The suit alleges that Scour contributes to copyright infringement by allowing file sharing of multimedia.

In large part, the case will turn on the interpretation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the federal law governing online copyright liability for Internet service providers and search engines.  Scour has worked closely with intellectual property experts to ensure that its network is in compliance with the DMCA.
